Combining the best of both worlds, Alanya consists of the old quarter with ancient stone streets, high city walls and historical feel; to the modern new town area with shops, bars and restaurants. The temperature can range from 16°-20° in the winter and 26°-33° during the summer months, making it perfect for lazing on the pale sand/shingle beach and cooling off in the sea.
There are two large beaches in Alanya, Cleopatra is 2km long and nicer than the other beach, though they both face south, benefiting from sunshine, daybreak to sunset, and offer an array of water sports. The restaurants in the new town of Alanya serve everything from local cuisine to international dishes, whilst the delightful restaurants in the old quarter specialise in exquisite local Turkish dishes. The waterfront bars are popular to start the night off, moving on to the discos or nightclubs and there are plenty of shops and stalls to find good quality, cheap souvenirs. No holiday to Alanya would be complete without experiencing some of the spectacular historical sites.
