The main holiday resort of Hammamet was developed in the 1970s and is known as the St Tropez of Tunisia, being the most popular tourist resort of the country. It is south of the Cap Bon peninsula and can boast having some of the best beaches in the country. These stretch the length of Hammamet and on to the area known as Yasmine Hammamet 6 miles to the south.
Overlooking the beautiful clear waters of the Gulf of Hammamet, it attracts a mixture of Tunisians and Europeans and is popular for family holidays. The charming Medina is the place to wander the Souks looking for bargains and haggling over prices.
Hammamet offers the best nightlife in the country with the best nightclubs located in hotels south of the centre and there are many restaurants where you can choose from local or international cuisine.
