Madeira Holidays
The wonderful island of Madeira is located in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Morocco, and is often known as `The Floating Garden in the Atlantic`, due to it`s beautiful mountain ranges and stunning tropical landscape. The Madeira weather remains pleasantly warm in the winter and can reach the late 20`s during the summer months.
Madeira holidays are particularly popular with walkers and hikers, as well as families who enjoy the man-made beaches and a climate that is not too hot for the kids. Funchal, the capital of Madeira, is a vibrant city with picturesque cobbled streets winding through the colonial mansions and a Blue Flag Beach.
Many people come to Madeira to follow the `levadas` which are irrigation channels carved into the mountains to allow the spring water to reach the villages. Close to Funchal you will find Santa Cruz, a relaxing friendly resort and great base from where to explore Madeira. Some of the excellent activities available on Madeira holidays include dolphin and whale spotting, balloon and helicopter rides, big game fishing, tennis and plenty of water sports.
Madeira nightlife is generally low-key with many of the larger hotels offering entertainment open to the public, although there are some discos and nightclubs that stay open into the early hours and a casino, in case you feel lucky. When it comes to eating out in Madeira you will find delicious local cuisine, such as freshly caught fish specialities, as well as international dishes to suit all tastes.
