Situated on the east coast of the island, Corfu Town is split into two parts. The Old Town is a maze of streets and alleyways, with local shops, a market, elegant cafes and eateries, while the New Town has larger, modern shops, banks and restaurants.
The Greek name for Corfu Town is `Kerkyra`, a word you will hear often from the locals and this lively resort has everything you could wish for on holiday. The main `Mon Repos` beach is a fairly small area of sand with a café next to it, though some of the best beaches are just a short, cheap bus ride along the coast. In Corfu Town you will find many excellent restaurants, the best being on the `Garitsa` seafront, where you can choose from exquisite, traditional Greek dishes, to international cuisine from around the world. When it comes to nightlife you are spoilt for choice in Corfu Town, with plenty of bars and tavernas, filled with locals and holiday makers alike, as well as an open-air cinema, screening mainly English language films. The discos are mainly located just off the town centre, to the north, for you to party through the night. The temperature varies between 14-21° out of season and a wonderful 25-32° during the summer months, just right for topping up your tan and swimming in the warm sea. If you do fancy filling the day up with more energetic activities then hop on a bus and you can discover most of the resorts on the island from your base in Corfu Town.
