The capital of Gran Canaria, Las Palmas is situated on the north east coast of the island with two fantastic beaches. Playa de las Alcaravaneras and Playa de las Canteras, which is a long beach of golden sand while a reef known as La Barra protects the waters of the beach and breaks the waves ensuring that the water of the inner lagoon is calm without being cut off from the open sea.
